What’s the HUM?

Holistic Urban Market

As a non-profit organization funded by its member, the Stony Plain Road and Area Business Association strives to establish long-term partnership between the business community, the surrounding communities and the public and private sector to improve safety and security, to promote business revitalization and to encourage economic development and business recruitment.  In order to attract more people to the street, improve image of the Stony Plain Road and Area Business Revitalization Zone, raise more funds, and interest new businesses and investors, various events and activities are launched and offered free to the public. We are very excited to announce another new launch. To further enhance community and business development we are working towards establishing a world class indoor/outdoor year round Holistic Urban Market that will attract the public who not only enjoy frequenting the standard farmer markets but also those who are interested in the holistic approach to a healthy life style.   By creating the big dream and vision, attracting the people who believe the vision is achievable, encouraging stakeholders to invest their time and resources and seek out sponsorship who appreciate the value and want to be part of the development, we believe all of this is a combination for success. By creating a holistic and unique approach we are hoping to attract the very valuable consumer, by enticing them to visit and explore a whole new concept for a farmers market which in turn will only increase the chances of success in an already competitive and repetitive market.

Be a part of this exciting development, to kick off the H.U.M. the Stony Plain Road and Area Business Association will be hosting a Business/Community mixer that will exhibit retailers in the area that provide services and products related to the holistic healthy lifestyle. Come out and see what we have to offer. First 60 tickets are free. Pick up your ticket at 10043 151 Street.

Storefront Cinema Nights

From: Stony Plain Road and Area Business Association

Contact: Diane Kereluk, 780-477-5169

The Second Annual Storefront Cinema Nights Festival is happening on October 16 & 17, 2009 and it is “FREE and open to the public”

Friday night is “Family Night” 6 to 9pm at Butler Memorial Park (15715 Stony Plain Road) spending an evening of family “film oriented” fun and events.  Get comfortable on haystacks or stay warm by the fire pit and watch local and Canadian animations projected onto a massive 33′ x 16′ inflatable screen.  The kids will have a chance at trying their hand at making their own Cameraless Film production, and see their productions in lights, in addition to other fun things throughout this great family evening.

Saturday night between the hours of 7 & 10 p.m. entails cutting-edge cinema produced by local artists, projected on storefront windows along Stony Plain Road between 151 and 154 Street with an added feature this year of contemporary dance and live hip hop music. For your comfort and safety the streets will be closed off to traffic and fire pits will be located in the center of the streets. Browse the many participating retail shops and enjoy a complementary warm beverage. Special entertainment this year and the first time in Edmonton, make and throw your own “Throwies” plus the “Glow Video Series!”

Deanna Kayne, film & performing arts coordinator for Storefront Cinema Nights, invites Edmontonians to come out and experience an “evening stroll like none other … cinema in the streets; black and white vintage footage; colourful political commentary; experimental film; and animated story telling. It’s a great night to get out, appreciate the arts and bring some community warmth to a fall evening.”

Many participating retail shops will remain open late, some providing complementary “hot chocolate” or “coffee” for festival goers.

After the event, mingle with friends at local eateries and/or listen to live music at local venues/pubs.
