Come to West Division’s Safety Fair

EPS West Division is holding a Safety Fair this Saturday, June 25. We encourage all residents to attend.


The event will take place at Belmead Community League, located at 9109 – 182 St, from noon to 4:00 p.m.


This is an opportunity for citizens to learn about numerous agencies that work with the Edmonton Police Service to help keep our communities safe.


Among the exhibitors will be members of EPS Forensic Identification Section, Traffic Section, Bomb Unit, Flight Operations, and several others.


Outside agencies include AMA, Safer Communities and Neighborhoods (SCAN), Child Find Alberta, EFD Pump and Sparky, City of Edmonton Community Services, Kids Kottage and more.


There will also be a roll over simulator for viewing and a child seat inspection clinic.


Representatives will be on hand to answer questions or just talk a little bit about what they do.


The event will go ahead rain or shine so come prepared.  We hope to see you there!

Transit Oriented Development Guidelines

May 17th, 2011 – West End Christian Reformed Church

Why is this important to you? The city’s plan is to increase the density of housing within
communities along the LRT line (along 156 Street in Glenwood). The proposed TOD
Guidelines have been drafted to guide commercial and multi-unit housing (duplex, row-
housing, and apartment housing) developments within 400m-800m of proposed LRT
station locations.

On May 17th, the City of Edmonton will be holding an open house and information

session for westend residents. A short presentation will be given at 7pm and members of
the project team will be available to answer questions

Coming Attractions

Wednesdays at 6pm in May – Glenwood Hall
Wednesday evenings starting at 6pm, come to the hall to learn how to play “Go”.
This game is played by players from the age of 6 to seniors – so it’s a great
game to learn with friends or family. There will be some instruction followed by
games, it is played between two people. Drop in and see what it’s all about, and
decide if you would like to attend our weekly “GO” night on Wednesdays at the
hall. Make friends. Have fun. Learn.

Glenwood Community is offering an opportunity for youth to participate in
the City of Edmonton’s Community Cruiser with a trip to the west end wall
climbing center. Transportation to and from the event is provided starting at the
Glenwood Community Hall. Participant cost is only $5 but spaces are limited to

We will be looking for a rink attendant interested in putting in the rink and taking
care of it as well as doing snow removal at the hall for NEXT winter (this is a paid

Euchre is a ‘trick-taking’ card game played in groups of 4 with partners.
Beginners are welcome because the more players, the better! Join us for Euchre
EVERY Tuesday night at the Glenwood Community Hall. Registration is at
6:30pm, games begin at 7pm.



Many community leagues are moving away from hosting community swim times
but Glenwood still has ours! Pack your swimsuit and head over to the Jasper
Place Pool from 4-6 on Sunday evenings for a free swim. Make sure you bring

Have you heard of the Sensational Game “GO”?
Following the AGM there will be a presentation on the game of GO by some experienced GO players. You will be fascinated to discover why GO is the most popular board game of skill in the world. It is not only fun for all ages but teaches many mental skills such as patience and perseverance. It can be peaceful but in reality it is a struggle between 2 players to control territory on a 19 by 19 grid between black stones and white stones.

We invite you to come and see and even try a small board game.  Weekly sessions will follow on Wednesdays starting on April 20th with instruction and games.  Adults and children ages 6 and up are welcome to attend, and residents of neighbouring communities are also welcome. Climb into the cockpit of a helicopter, steer the bomb squad remote control robot, sit in an ambulance, see search and rescue dogs in action, and learn how to use a fire extinguisher. It’s all part of the fun of Get Ready in the Park. Join Edmonton’s emergency response community as it helps kids and adults learn how to prepare for an emergency as part of Emergency Preparedness Week 2010.
ATCO Gas has partnered with the City of Edmonton to put on this year’s “Get Ready in the Park” event. Come visit the ATCO Gas tent while you’re down at Hawrelak Park between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. We have a “Locate Challenge”, furnace inspection advice for homeowners, door prize draws, food safety information if your power goes out, and much more.
Children at the event will be given a “Passport to Preparedness.” After collecting 10 stamps (initials) by visiting participating organizations kids will be eligible to enter to win prizes. There’s plenty to see, do, learn and take-away from at this free family-focused event.

More than 25 exhibitors from municipal, provincial, federal, corporate and non-profit organizations will be on site with demonstrations, interactive games and free giveaways for the whole family.
Emergency Preparedness Week is an annual, national event held this year from May 2 – 8. Here in Edmonton, the main objectives are showcasing Edmonton’s emergency community capabilities in responding to major emergencies, increasing awareness about individual emergency preparedness and encourage residents to be prepared in the event of major emergency so that we can all reduce the risks and lessen the consequences of disasters. Primary goals of emergency preparedness are taking care of yourself and your family for a minimum of three days (72 hours.) If a disaster happens in your community, it may take emergency workers some time to get to you as they help those in desperate need.

West LRT – December 8th Public Hearing

Edmonton City Council’s Transportation and Public Works Committee will be holding a non-statutory public on the recommended conceptual design plan for the approved West LRT Corridor.  The plan will be going to Council for a final decision in January 2011.

The City of Edmonton is preparing to present recommended Concept Plans to City Council on the West LRT extension. This includes information on where the LRT tracks will be located within the corridor, LRT station locations, and access.

Information sessions are scheduled for the to overview the recommended Concept Plans with the public and answer questions.

West LRT Stakeholder Meeting

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2010, 8-10 P.M.

A coalition of stakeholders impacted by the proposed Stony Plain Road LRT route has arranged a meeting of stakeholders, city officials, and the interested public.

The purpose of the meeting will be to review reports about the proposed route, published by the city’s transportation department and consultants.
Key points to review include:

* The process used to develop the recommendations.
* Land use changes.
* Walkability.
* Transparency of acquisitions.
* Method of inclusion of stakeholders.

The transportation department will formally present the route to City Council on December 8, 2010.

This meeting offers an opportunity in advance to discuss recent developments.
